Outstanding performances came in droves as usual at the Championships with Woden 16 Year Old Hugo Morris having a cracking meet with 6 out of 7 swims resulting in medal success.
Morris first contented the 100m Freestyle alongside regular rivals Elliott Long (Willoughby) and Callum Smith (Twin Towns) being seeded in 1st position just over 1.30 seconds ahead of Long and Smith. The boys took off the blocks quickly for the 4 lap sprint with Morris just holding on to claim Gold in 51.38 with Long and Smith touching the wall after respectively. Long was eager to steal back a win from Morris with the boys going head to head in the 50m Freestyle. The 2 lap sprint favoured Long in the end clocking a very quick 23.55 with Morris settling for Silver in 23.72. Thomas McParlane (Woy Woy) was next to challenge Morris in the pool for the 200m Butterfly with the 8 event taking its toll on McParlane and just fading in the closing stages to clock 2:05.48, however this was enough to secure the Silver medal. Morris convincingly took the win in 2:02.20.
In the 200m Individual Medley Morris was looking to post a good time ahead of Keelan Bridge (Woy Woy) and Matthew Jepson (Sea Eagles) just off the pace seeded in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Morris took to the water for the Individual Medley, one of his strong events being a solid all rounder in the strokes, and left his competition behind to clock an impressive personal best time in 2:06.45 for the Gold. Bridge touched in 2:07.92 for the Silver with Jepson taking home the Bronze in 2:08.98. Morris also collected Gold in the 200m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly with a 4th in the 200m Breaststroke to finish off a successful State Championships campaign for the 16 year old. -http://www.nswswimming.com.au/
