The Woden Valley “Sharks” Swim Club was established in Canberra on 21 June, 1971.
Since then we have grown to become one of the largest and most successful swim clubs in the Canberra region. Our swimmers range in ability from pre-competitive swimmers through to swimmers who have achieved national and international time standards.
Our swimmers are regularly successful in various Australian state and national events, and also at international events. Woden swimmers competed at the Athens Olympic Games in 2004 and in the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.

At Woden Swim Club we welcome and cater for all standards of swimmers. There is no requirement of a swimmer to attend a minimum number training sessions. The Club appreciates that a swimmer may be involved in other activities and have academic and/or other commitments.
We try to ensure, however, that our swimmers understand that success in championship competition can only be achieved through commitment to a regular training regime. Current and innovative training techniques and practices are employed by our qualified coaches, who emphasize making training fun and enjoyable.
Woden employs qualified ASCTA coaches. We have:
- 2 “Silver License” coaches, one of whom has had experience with swimmers at the Olympic level, and
- 1 “Bronze License” coach.
